Free Mac Games and More

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Being a PC guy myself, I don’t find myself venturing into the Mac world very often. The closest I probably come is firing up iTunes and syncing up my iPod on my PC. When we did the list of 100 full free pc games to download online, there were some comments asking about where the Mac list was. Well, when looking to do my first ReviewMe review, I came across a source for free mac games and more.

According to the about page, Macgamesandmore.com is run by Cate Defrise and focuses on independent Mac shareware developers. There are many categories of downloadable Mac games and software including free games and demos. A few categories mentioned are Mac Mahjong, Risk-like Games, Soccer Games and many others. They also link off to many web based flash games that would work for either the Mac or PC crowd.

A suggestion I would have for the site is to develop a more consistent navigation. I found it a bit hard to navigate when the layout would completely change or I’d wind up in a new window for different areas. Also, the RSS feed seems to be currently empty. This would be great to syndicate the free web games featured on the home page or one of the other categories.

So if you’re a Mac guy or gal, and you’re looking for free games or software or even if you’re a PC guy looking for some flash games to play, check out macgamesandmore.com.

EVE Online MMO Best Space Sim Ever?

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

A buddy of mine has been trying to get me to try out EVE Online. This weekend, I finally decided to download the demo and give it a try. You don’t need to submit any credit card info… always a big plus for any trial run.

My first impression was that this was a pretty cool looking stylish game. I was excited to dive into it. So I started to go through the tutorial. This seemed to go on… and on… and on… The interface is very point and click… hold down your right or left mouse button on things to choose what to do or how to interact. There’s a lot you can do… off the back it’s almost overwhelming. The universe appears HUGE!

My biggest problem with EVE is the combat. It is more slow and strategic than I thought it would be. You click your target; select to attack it and kind of sit back while the fighting takes place. I’m told there’s a lot more to do once you have multiple guns and missiles to manage. One of my favorite space sims was Freelancer. That game was a GREAT space sim!! I was hoping for a fast paced aim, target, fire combat mixed with an in-depth MMO experience. Unfortunately, this isn’t what I got. I really should put in a lot more time to put together a more detailed review, but this one isn’t for me.

If you are looking for a very detailed complex MMO space sim, you may want to give the trial a try. For what I saw, the graphics were very cool. Unfortunately for me though, I would have to disagree with my buddy and say this is not the best space simulation ever. For the devs out there, give me the depth of EVE with the combat of Freelancer and I’d be sold!!
