You can actually tweak your page a lot if you know a bit of html and css. Then add adsense advert on it or whatever you can find, and see if you can keep a good post frequency as well as keep the content interesting which is very important too. if you want your free domain name, instead of taking wordpress, you can also use drupal or joomla. I use Drupal and i am 99% pleased by it. Drupal is free and customizable. I suggest to start with a free blogging system like blogspot. I've only launched my blog about 10 days ago and some say it takes some time before google indexes the site. When I enter my blog's name my home page isn't listed...disturbing.
