Transformers the Movie Free Online Game “Battle for the Allspark”

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Being a child of the 80’s, I can’t wait to see the new Transformers movie coming out in a few days. I religiously watched the transformers battle it out and nearly cried during the original “Transformers the Movie.” (Come on, that movie was traumatic to watch!) I know, I’m a little worried about changes, updates, etc. But I’m ready to sit back and be entertained by Mr. Michael Bay and company.

There’s a cool, free to play, online flash game that they have posted called “Battle for the Allspark“. First you choose your side, pick your bot and name him. Then you enter into a map that shows Autobot or Decepticon controlled regions. You choose the region you want to enter into, find an opponent, and battle it out.

It’s very simple combat, but fun to jump in and play. They’ve got a built in chat so that you can chat (or taunt) your opponent. As you gain experience, you can actually rise in rank and develop new abilities to use in battle.

There are also prizes for the highest scoring bot from each faction. Check it out and let me know what you think…

Infantry Online, Tanarus, and Cosmic Rift are now FREE to play!!

These great Sony Station Pass games are now free to play for all!

Here’s the official post from the Sony Station Pass Message Boards:

Hello All,

It’s been a few months in the making but finally… it is my great pleasure to make the following announcement:

Starting June 26th, the Station Pass games, Infantry, Cosmic Rift, and Tanarus, will be completely free. Yes, 100% (no money needed, no small print, no exceptions, etc) free!

In order to make this transition, as of May 26th, billing will be turned off to prevent anyone else from subscribing and to allow everyone’s paid time to be completed. Since some accounts will expire before the end of the month and before the games are set to free, guest accounts will have to be used for that transitional period. My apologies for any inconvenience this transitional period may cause, but there’s no way around it, and well, I think some may say the end result makes it worth it.

Additionally, as some of you may have already guessed from my not overly cryptic posts, we’re busy at work documenting the Infantry & Cosmic Rift map editors which we will make publicly available soon after we make the switch to free.

I trust once the games are set to free, and the Infantry & CR editors are available, we will see a good inflow of maps designed by you guys, which takes us to the next task on my list; Player Content Team. We will set up a team to help funnel / implement / appraise the many maps I am sure we will get. More than anything, I want to make sure this process is transparent to the rest of the community, mainly to prevent any preferential treatment, and because I fully believe that if you took the time to make a map, it should have a fair shot of at least being play tested. There’s obviously quite a bit to spec out and define before the PCT happens, but I wanted to bring it up now since I knew it was probably going to be the #1 question right after reading the big announcement above.

In Tanarus’ case, since there’s no guest access, we may have an extended ‘free weekend’ a week or so prior to the official change to free to try to alleviate any down time for those who end their billing cycle earlier than the end of the month.

So alas, I hope you enjoy the last of your P2P days, and I hope everyone is as excited about the news as I am.

Cheers!

-Jose Araiza / SPD_G

It looks like there are still some issues with warnings about limited access and having to purchase the Station Pass. Ignore these warnings, they are working on the problem. Here’s what they say about it:

Hello All!

As you may have noticed, today was our first day of being officially switched over to free. I have to say I am very happy with the population growth we have seen just today, and my guess would be you guys are as well since it gives everyone a little more to shoot at.To those of you who are new to the game; welcome! Enjoy our games, and stay tuned for additional free content. To those of you who are returning to the game; what I said above, plus my thanks for coming back to check out the new direction (and better if I may say) we’re taking the games on.
I will also take this opportunity to give you all updates about a couple of other bits:

  • PCT - The announcement is on hold for the time being until we get the tools in place for these folks to actually help out. It’d do it now, but there’s no point in naming folks until they can actually help out… and the suspense is just too much fun
  • Map Editor - The map editor will be available as soon as the Station.com goes live. I am told next week, but I know web presence and marketing are taking the needed time to make the revamp be as smooth as can be, so this may be delayed a day or two if need be. I will keep you posted as things develop.
  • Launch Pad - The false ‘you need to sub or have limited access’ prompt and subscribe buttons bugs are being fixed as we speak, and should be rolled out as soon as they pass QA.

I believe that’s all for the time being, but if I missed anything, or you guys have any questions, please post them as I will try to address as many of them as I can.

Cheers!

-SPD_G / Jose

A Free Star Wars RPG Game

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Ok, now I’m really on a free games kick. Inspired by my old flash star wars game I made years ago and my love for all things Star Wars, I was just thinking… I wonder if there are any free Star Wars games out there… so off to Google I go. I just searched Google for “Free Star Wars Games” and I couldn’t believe the first result that came up: http://www.swcombine.com.

Star Wars Combine is a free massive multiplayer online role-playing game set in the Star Wars univers, and it’s FREE to play!! I have not had the chance to play yet. I’m waiting for approval, but this looks really in depth for a free to play game. I can’t wait to get in and try it out. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about it before. Shows that there are a lot of hidden gems out there… and we aim to find them and point you in their direction!

50+ More Free Full PC Games (Follow-up to 100 Full Version PC Games Post)

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

I never expected the original 100 full version PC games list to make the impact and receive the traffic that it did! The response was phenomenal. Thanks to everyone for checking it out and contributing to the comments. I hope it lead some to find new games to play.

WildGames by WildTangent, Inc.

Many people were disappointed that this or that game were not mentioned in the list. This post is a compilation of games and links mentioned in comments on both the blog and on digg. Many people would like to see the games further categorized, rated, and described. Being a “gaming dad” with a very full time job, I haven’t had the time to get that together. I’m hoping to convert http://www.downloadfullversionpcgames.com/ from a site about games to buy and download online to a full featured engine for full free games. Look for this in the future. For now, I hope this expanded list will help you find something new to fire up and play!

100 of the Best Legal Free Full Version Games You Can Download Online

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Over time I have found many fully functioning games that are free to download in various places across the web. Here are 100 of these great full games that are free to download online. They range from independent games, to games that were once commercial but are now free, free to play MMO games (some of the MMOs do have the option of purchasing in game items, etc.), free action games, 3rd person games, games designed by hobbyists, and many more!

WildGames by WildTangent, Inc.

If you know of others, please leave a comment with the URL.  I’ll approve comments as I have time. The graphics do not need to be the most up to date or have the most advanced physics engine.  The requirement I’m looking for is that they are fun to play! I want to create a single source to find these free games so that others don’t need to scour the web for them like I did.

FATE Bonus Pack and Enhanced Media

Monday, June 4th, 2007

For those of you who own FATE, you might not know of the items you can download from the official FATE website. If you’re like me, you downloaded it and never looked at the main FATE site. I checked it out this weekend and was surprised to see these additional packages to download.

They have an Enhanced Media Package to improve the games textures and sound. There is also a Bonus pack that adds new weapons, armor, and 3 new monsters.

Nice little packages for an already spectacular game. As I’ve said before, if you like the Diablo games (only better graphics!), than you shouldn’t miss out on FATE.

Aveyond: An Old School Final Fantasy Style RPG Game

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

One of the things I like to do is find the games out there that are a diamond in the rough. They may not have the latest and greatest graphics, but the fun factor is the most important to me. I found this in Aveyond.

Aveyond is an RPG that is very much in the style of an old school SNES game like the Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger games. If you enjoy these types of turn based games, then this one’s a game you should check out. I had a nostalgic feeling as I started playing Aeyond. At first it felt like an SNES Zelda with the top down view and slowly building story elements. Once the turn based battles started, it felt like I found a classic Final Fantasy I never played.

I think sometimes I go into checking out these games with the preconceived notion that because of the low price, I’m not going to get the full experience that I want. I’m finding as I explore some of these alternate non-mainstream games that there are a surprising number of great diamonds to be discovered: FATE, Aveyond, Grimm’s Hatchery just to name a few. I hope to find many more and post them here so that others can find them and enjoy these games that we’ve been missing out on.

A Star Wars Game from a fan to Honor the 30th Anniversary

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Back in 2000 when I first started to learn flash, I wanted to learn by putting a game together. The Star Wars Trilogy has always been and still remains my favorite movies of all time. I decided to make my first attempt at a flash game a tribute to Star Wars. So that began Star Wars Tie-P Fighter.

The game is a “typing game”. Basically swarms of tie fighters attack and the targeting is based on pressing a letter that is assigned to that ship. As simple as this premise is, it turned out to be a really fun game!

Fast forward a couple years and over time many educators have linked to it to assist students in learning how to type! The game gets a lot of visitors a day. I’m thrilled that teachers have used this game to educate and that others still log in to try and top their highest score.

So, in honor of the 30th anniversary, I wanted to post back out to my little Star Wars game I made in flash so many years ago. I hope you have fun with it, and may the force be with you!!

Grimm’s Hatchery Review: A Strangely Addicting Little Game

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Your father the king has died and left the castle to your evil brother. The only way you will be able to take back what’s rightfully yours is to raise 300,000 gold. How are you going to do this? With your Hatchery… that’s how! Protect your creatures from invading monsters, collect their eggs, feed them, heal them, and keep them alive. This is what you will spend most of you time doing while playing this game and damn if it isn’t addicting! With the eggs you collect, you can sell them for gold or attempt to hatch them with the strong chance of destroying the egg. As you progress you’ll be able to do more with them like try to combine them to make unique eggs and better creatures.

Unfortunately, one of your first impressions of this game is the tutorial. This looks as if it was just kind of tacked on by the programmer after the designer left the project! The talking bubbles look pretty horrible as if someone was using MS paint or something. Just struggle through the pain with this to get past it as quick as possible. As you progress, you’ll be able to purchase better weapons to defend your precious hatchery of creatures. You’ll eventually gain keys to unlock new areas with new townsfolk to sell you better stuff and new hatcheries that allow better creatures.

Keep an eye out in the areas where you buy things. Once in a while you’ll see some sparkling coins, food, or other goodies lying around for you to pick up and add to your inventory.

This really turned out to be an addicting little game and once I was past the terrible tutorial I found myself having a lot of fun. Check out Grimm’s Hatchery from Big Fish Games. Let me know what you think!
